Greetings and happy Spring from the staff and clients of IHN. It is that time of year when we begin to long for sunny days. When the flowers are bursting forth from their winters nap and all creation begins to think of ensuring that their species will continue another generation.
I would like to take this space to remind you that April is “Child Abuse Prevention Month.” So as you drive around Green County in April and see the places that have blue pinwheels displayed on their grounds or in the facility say a prayer for our children, for their families and for the Children Service personnel who are charged with safe guarding these children.
This also may be a great time for your church or organization to look for opportunities to assist some of the parents in your group. Perhaps offering to child sit while the parent(s) go to a movie or holding an event that provides free child care while they are participating in the event. Or perhaps just a note telling a parent you appreciate the parenting skills you see them employing as they care for their children. Be creative and be a blessing.
At IHN we served 99 individuals last year in house and over 300 through phone or drop ins with direction and referrals. Almost 60% of our clients in house were children 17 or younger; today our census is 6 adults and 12 children. The services your donation helps us provide always include a variety of training(s) to sharpen parenting and life skills and tutors for both the children and their parents.
“What can we do to help?” is a question I am asked quite often and I would like to take a small space and address that question. First I would like to preface these thoughts with thanksgiving. IHN is a blessed organization. God has blessed us abundantly over and over again with the resources we need to minister to our families. Just this week we had a large donation, a mini-van full, from Saint Luke’s Catholic Church as part of their Lenten devotion. These kind of unsolicited gifts are straight from God and so often they are delivered with perfect timing and in direct relation to the needs of the house as God moves in the heart of people.
But the critical and most challenging area of need is one that is often difficult for us to address, that is the financial need. We have added Paypal to our web site and Facebook accounts, we are establishing an endowment through Greene Giving and have upped our efforts to obtain grants. We have added several fund raisers such as the “Giving Tuesday (Nov.),” “Share the Love (February),” Chipotle “Foodie” Fund raiser (April 2/Sept 10), “Bags and Baubles (May 12),” 2nd Annual “Empty Bowl” (Oct. 6), 5/10k Run Walk (Nov.4) to go along with the Golf Marathon (May 22) which raised $45K in 2016. All of this energy is expended in an effort to ensure that the services of IHN continue to help Greene County families today and in the future.
So in answer to the question, “What can we do to help?” My answer would be to donate financially as the Lord leads and enables you to give. The greatest resource of IHN is our volunteers and donors we receive no “Government” money. We are able to serve as we are empowered by the energies and resources we receive from our supporters and all who care about the hurting and distressed families of Greene County, OH. Thank you for your support.
